'Your Truest Self' helps women discover themselves through the stories of others

It should be noted for the record that I rarely read a book more than once. Having moved more than 30 times, I tend to be more of a "let's move on" kind of person.
Earlier this year, Jan Lundy asked whether I would read and comment on the manuscript for her new book, and I was more than pleased to do so. When the thick manuscript arrived in my mailbox, I opened it up and eagerly dug in, anxious to get through it and compose my "review."
I should have known better. Jan is a thoughtful writer whose words insist on being taken seriously - and being read slowly. Her profiles of twelve deeply spiritual women provide the framework for Your Truest Self: Embracing the Woman You Are Meant To Be, a meaningful and enriching journey of self-discovery.
By wrapping each story around a spiritual truth, Jan illuminates the path to greater acceptance and self-love, while also offering reflections and practical observations based in her own experience. As I read Jan's reflections on the extraordinary women she profiled - including celebrities like Naomi Judd and Doreen Virtue "the Angel Lady" - I began to see myself differently.
It took me a while to finish the book and submit my comment, and a few months later, I received a review copy of the book. Without hesitation, I opened the pages and visited with these women, grateful to be in their company once more.
The second reading gave me an even deeper understanding of why this book touched me in such an unusual way. I came to it as a spiritual seeker, looking for insights and understanding that would help me feel more connected to Spirit and bring more peace into my life. I thought I would find this if only I could identify and fix what was wrong with me.
By profiling each of these holy and yet wholly human women, Jan helped me clear a path through all the negative messages from within and without. I knew some of these women by their writings or reputation. But their collected wisdom brings something unique to this book. Facilitated by the author, they helped me see myself as a holy woman, as we all are.
The women I love are getting a copy of this book for Christmas - especially my daughter.
